Perelandra is a joyful tone poem, based on a creative vision of an alien world that never fell from grace.
Welcome to the Dark Side is traditional gospel mixed with jazz fusion. There are some surprises in store for those of you familiar with the earlier performance of this song.
That Which Surrounds Us is an exploration of how the human condition in the modern world is empty and dissatisfying. This song is not intended to mindlessly attack people's miserable situations. Rather, this song is to vent frustration and acknowledge the reality of our current predicament as we fight for that which is good and worthy in each of us.
Sorrow for an Enchanted Woman is a somber mourning over unrequited love. Remember that? When guys used to fall in love with women? Yeah. I'm all about that. That's old school.
Starving is a nostalgic flashback into my past, but there is also an underlying flashback that goes far back before I was born... duhn duhn duhn...
Anna
AnnaAnna is a sad story about how badly it can go to get romantically entangled with someone who is really more in need of therapy than romance.
Path of Pain is a mystical riddle about the process of attaining divine wisdom.
Lost Angel is a song about being alone, even in a room full of people.
Snow White is about a dangerous, forbidden romance. There is also a secret message in the lyrics, for those who are discerning. Here again, this song has been much developed and expanded since the earlier performance at GSTV.
Stand and Fight Me is a song about growing apart from someone, and how this is not okay when "growing apart" violates honor, and deep and meaningful history between the two people.
Kelly is a love song, based on someone long gone and all but forgotten, but that's no reason to throw away a perfectly good love song.
The Truth is an invitation into the frightening, deadly, and socially unacceptable world of being a good person.
Sunlight Princess is sympathy expressed for a friend who was left alone by those closest to her to wrestle with past traumas.
Mouse is about a school shooting that took place in Georgia by a guy who was nicknamed Mouse. He was outcast and brutalized by bullies, and he went to help from everyone he knew to ask for help, and they either turned him away or mocked him. School shootings are not the answer, but they will continue to happen until society is willing to make an honest appraisal of the underlying causes.
Avalon is an invitation into the secrets realms that are only made accessible to those of pure heart: the innocent, the romantic, the idealists.
The Aaronic Benediction is a traditional part of the Jewish liturgy. I close my shows with it because I believe a musical performance should be consecrated. Without sanctification, everything degenerates into self parody, and I can't have that. This isn't hip hop.
Don't Put Laws On My Body is a new way to look at both sides of a heated, challenging social issue. Check it out!
